WATCHET DOLPHINS
Swimming Groups based at Wansbrough Pool, Watchet

Over 180 National Level awards have been given to Dolphins in the last 10 months, each of which places the swimmer on a scale recognised throughout the Country.  Dolphins have achieved many other Distance, Speed, Survival and Challenge A.S.A. Awards since last September.

Diving tuition takes place almost every week in Taunton for those wishing to further enhance their skills.

Our own Dolphins Basic Survival awards have been presented to 50 youngsters who are able to get to safety with clothes on should they ever fall in.  Every award represents real effort so WELL DONE

In line with ASA guidelines I have always included the cost of awards as a part of the lesson fee.

The Dolphins again demonstrated their abilities by taking part in the Minehead Rotary Sponsored Swim, raising a grand total of £703, a great result for the charities and your schools.
This success would not be possible without the enthusiasm and efforts of the swimmers and a special "thank you" to parents, friends and acquaintances who contributed so generously.

All Dolphins Sessions continue throughout the Summer Holidays

why not take advantage of the smaller groups and maybe take on extra sessions ?
No "crash courses" this year - but you will be welcome to come 3 or 4 times a week throughout the summer holidays

Regular Attendance is essential to maintain good progress.

A few try to "dip in and out" of lessons but this often results in slow development and a feeling of failure when they discover "the others can do it"  Remember - a session missed is an opportunity missed.

I would like to think that swimming becomes so enjoyable for every Dolphin that they will carry on swimming for pleasure as they get older

The Dolphins teach stroke improvement techniques all the time whilst trying to keep it FUN for the children

The prime reason for the Dolphins is safety in the water and most have taken part in Personal Survival sessions during the year. Even the very youngest have been successful in achieving Dolphins Basic Survival awards - fully clothed !

My sincere thanks go to all the parents and grandparents who support the Dolphins week after week - the success of the Dolphins is your success and none of this would have been possible without your continued help and support.

Improvements in the last year are on our Notice-Board

An important reminder: we only hire the pool from the School.  Please do not allow your children to stray on to other school property.

Please see our policies:  http://www.watchet.dolphins.btinternet.co.uk/2policies.htm

All Groups continue throughout the summer holidays - as numbers will be down, why not take advantage of the fewer numbers in the water ? Groups are much more flexible, you can stay in longer and we often have the play apparatus out.

Watchet Dolphins is a very successful Learn-to-Swim Club whose main aim is to make children safe in the Water.

In the last 15 years Dolphins have:

achieved 73 prestigious Complete Swimmer awards
passed 114 Gold and 168 Silver Challenge awards

raised over £10,000 for Charity.

Dolphins have won the award for the Best First School Team every year since 1996 and many other awards from the Rotary Swimathon.   Many Dolphins figure prominently in their own school teams.

in addition

148 have National level 9 and above
190 have swum at least 1 mile
148 have learned to dive safely in the deep pool in Taunton
193 have passed our own Basic Survival awards
247 have passed one of the ASA Personal Survival Awards

The ASA recommends that a good time for advanced swimmers to move into a Competitive Club is after they have achieved the Complete Swimmer award and are able to take on the increased distances and competitiveness of a Swimming Club.

As a Learn-to-Swim Club, the Dolphins teach all the strokes to a high standard in preparation for moving on and many Dolphins continue to gain success in local swimming clubs.
