| February 27th 2008 | A possible reprieve: two meetings attended by 250 people with 64 speakers persuaded the Council to give a Working Group an opportunity to come up with an alternative plan to operate Aquasplash. See here for ---> Council draft Minute | |
| February 27th 2008 | Modified Aquasplash Leisure Centre Report SC 12/08 Issued by Neil Parbrook and re-presented |
The Report recommending closure of Aquasplash will be presented again to Cabinet at 4pm. Full Council will meet at 6.30pm to approve the Cabinet recommendation and to finalise the budget (at present with just £50,000 allocated for swimming). The report notes that between 2001-2007 there has been £183,000 capital expenditure, mostly on improving the asset and purchasing new equipment. |
| February 13th 2008 | Modified Aquasplash Leisure Centre Report SC 12/08 Issued by Neil Parbrook |
Modified report to Cabinet - again recommending immediate closure of Aquasplash. Large turn-out of concerned ratepayers to this Cabinet meeting caused the Aquasplash item to be deferred to 27th February. |
| December 5th 2007 | Aquasplash Leisure Centre Report SC 109/07 Issued by Neil Parbrook |
Report prepared and presented to December Cabinet meeting with the recommendation to close Aquasplash permanently. Item was withdrawn at the meeting, to allow negotiations with a new Somerset County Council team. |
| October 22nd 2007 | Structural Engineers Report | Written report, dated 22nd October 2007, issued by Pick Everard, Consulting Engineers. They state that the "primary structural fabric of the premises will have remained relatively undisturbed by the water leak" |
| October 19th 2007 | Structural Engineers Report | Consulting Engineers on site - found minor subsidence, but nothing serious and building in sound condition. Normally a verbal condition report would be given pending the written report. |
| October 14th 2007 | Last swim at Aquasplash - Watchet Dolphins speed swims 10.45-12noon. Pool was then closed on Health & Safety grounds as it was unknown whether the water loss had caused any subsidence. Users not notified and many turned up Monday morning to find pool closed. | |
| 4th & 11th October 2007 | Mechanical & Electrical Engineers Report | Visited site and determined that a "worst case" scenario would cost £15,000 to repair and it would take approximately two/three months to reopen the pool for use. |
| September 2007 | Leak believed to have been known about, although uncertain of source. No users were informed that there was a problem. | |
| April 2007 | Aquasplash Service Standards document Issued by Keith Ross |
Leisure Portfolio holder Keith Ross issued this document which promises to "Provide a pool and a Gym and Health suite" and to "Report and Repair all maintenance work within 3 days". and "Anything that cannot be repaired within 3 days will be reported to customers with the reasons why". |
| January 2007 | Press Release | £30,000 spent on refit for Aquasplash Fitness Suite |
| 4th December 2006 | Aquasplash Marketing and Operational Report LC/AQ12/06 Issued by Keith Ross |
Council approves additional expenditure on Fitness Suite (£25,000) and to undertake a new marketing and promotions plan. The Report also notes the future costs of £250,000 a year to operate Aquasplash. |
| 27th May 2005 | Panel Report on Strategic Review of Aquasplash | Prepared by Jenny Hill, Peter Humber and Keith Parkes. Notes the underfunding and
underestimating of costs of Aquasplash - and that no sinking fund had been established. Concern also that Members were largely unaware of the implications of a new pool (New Horizons) being constructed at the College. |
| 1989-1991 | Funding for Aquasplash | Raised at a time when there were restrictions on the amount an Authority could spend on new build. Inevitably a compromise that does not suit all. Approved by Council in full knowledge that the annual deficit (at that time) would be at least £120,000. |
